Chelsea Recruit Caballero
LEAPYGUIDE.COM - Chelsea got their first recruit in the transfer market this summer. The Blues brought in former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
Caballero free agent status after his contract expired at the end of the 2016/2017 season was not renewed by City. The 35-year-old goalkeeper was one of five players who released City on a free transfer.
Next season, Caballero will be in Chelsea uniform. The Premier League defending champion announced Caballero's recruitment on his official website on Saturday (1/7/2017).
"I am very happy to join Chelsea, the English champions, I can not wait to meet my friends and help the club achieve greater success in the upcoming season," Caballero said as quoted by the club's official website.
Caballero will be a coating for Thibaut Courtois following the departure of Asmir Begovic. Begovic has left Chelsea and joined Bournemouth.
Caballero has been in the Premier League for three years with City. However, the Argentine goalkeeper is more often a reserve goalkeeper. Since recruited from Malaga in 2014, Caballero performed 48 times for City.
